What we do

Strategic Programmes and Projects are a team of 50+ highly experienced and industry recognised qualified Programme Managers (MSP), Project Managers (PRINCE2), Business Analysts (ISEB) and Implementation Officers. We have a rich and diverse experience drawn from our university, higher education, the private and public sectors and have been in existence since 2003.

What do we do?

We support multiple portfolios, programmes and projects and provide a centre for excellence for programme and project management across the university.

Business Analysis

We analyse business requirements and identify process improvements with process owners, stakeholders, students, academic and professional services staff. Using this work, we produce business cases, detailed statements of requirement and identify potential system and process solutions with end users, systems staff and potential suppliers. Cost / benefits analysis of options is a key part our work, ensuring that a solution is recommended based on robust evidence.

During the project, amongst other activities we:

Programme Management

We are fully engaged with the complete programme lifecycle, using and adapting the Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) methodology from identification of a programme through definition, management and closure. This framework, designed to manage large scale change, includes clarification of the programme's outcomes, governance, delivery, monitoring and managing risks and dependencies and ensuring that all benefits of the programme are fully embedded in the University. We have a Programme Manager specifically dedicated to the delivery of Programmes in support of our academic endeavour and our staff are integral to other large university programmes.

Project Management

We take projects through their full life-cycle, using our adapted PRINCE2 methodology, from input into initial business case preparation and submission, project initiation, through to successful implementation and post-project review, ensuring project objectives are achieved and that agreed benefits are realised after project completion. We:

We are responsible for the successful implementation of project systems usually, though not exclusively, IT systems to agreed specifications, in liaison with IT Services, users and external software providers. We:

How do we manage our programmes and projects?

We use adapted industry standard methodologies and governance to manage all aspects of our programmes and projects from initial Business Cases through to programme and project closure. This rigour ensures consistency and surety across all programmes and projects, providing financial certainty, robust risk and issue management through transparent governance and decision making. In turn this supports our aim to deliver our programmes and projects on time, on budget and to specification.
