Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD)

What is CPRD?

  • The CPRD is a government service providing access to anonymised NHS primary and secondary care records for public health research

  • It contains over 40 million total patient lives, with 11 million currently registered patients, covering approx. 16% of the United Kingdom population and recruits a number of additional GP practices each year

  • It is funded by the NHS National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)

  • It can be linked to other datasets such as the Hospital Episode Statistics (HES), the Office for National Statistics (ONS) mortality information, the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) and cancer registries
