One-Day conference: Saturday 22 February 2014

The University of Bristol’s Centre for Romantic and Victorian Studies is pleased to announce a one-day conference on ‘Public Drinking in the Nineteenth Century’ on Saturday 22 February 2014.

This interdisciplinary conference offers an exciting series of papers from established scholars and early career/postgraduate students with particular interests in the cultural preoccupations of the nineteenth century and its influences. The event will explore the paradoxical status of alcohol in the period both as social enabler and source of pleasure, and cause for social and personal concern. The conference aims to bring together scholars working in different subject areas associated with alcohol studies to develop this dynamic field of study.
