Funeral Gallery

Although there is great variation in the funeral practices of different Buddhist cultures, there are also similarities and variations of recurring themes. Common elements include rituals in the home of the deceased, processions, donations, ordaining as a monk for the sake of the dead, the invitation of monks, chanting, cremation and other rites sometimes held long after a person passes away.  Some of these parts may be dropped in favour of others, some may be absent in certain local settings, and others may be merged together.

These images, and many more, depicting Buddhist funerals, cremations and death rituals can be downloaded for free.
