Getting started

At the very beginning of a particular line of research it is worth considering whether the results of the work might be disseminated via commercial channels.  Grant awarding bodies increasingly require that attention be paid to economic and social impact from the outset, and it is not too early at the application stage to have a discussion with us about commercialisation.

In some cases research is funded via contracts with individual firms or via collaborative programmes, such as those managed by the TSB or the EU.  The terms of these contracts and collaboration agreements will determine the freedom of action when results of commercial relevance arise.
