Nutrition and Behaviour Unit (NBU)
Since 2006, the Nutrition and Behaviour Unit (NBU) has been working at the intersection between behaviour and health. What makes the NBU distinctive is its integrated approach —bringing together nutrition science and psychology to address real-world challenges in human health. We explore fundamental psychological and biological drivers of human dietary behaviour. As such, we adopt a theory-driven approach that challenges assumptions and advances our understanding of eating behaviour and how it should be studied. Members of the NBU lead the BBSRC-OIRC Consumer Lab Innovation Hub and they co-lead the Population Diet and Physical Activity Workstream of the NIHR Bristol Biomedical Research Centre’s Diet and Physical Activity Theme.
Our research facility is located within the School of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Bristol in the UK.
Our work has been supported by a range of funding agencies, including;
- the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC),
- the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC),
- the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC),
- the EU Seventh Framework Programme (EU FP7), the Medical Research Council (MRC),
- and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
