Staff Survey 2018
A message from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost
I am writing to update you on progress in relation to the issues raised in the 2018 Staff Survey.
Following the 2018 Staff Survey each area of our university - including schools, faculties, divisions and the senior leadership team - has been working to create their own action plan to address the key issues raised. We have now gathered these together into an overarching plan to ensure that we are making progress based on your feedback about your experiences of working here at Bristol.
This year, along with creating their own plans, we also asked each faculty and division to also give feedback on issues and opportunities that are for wider University consideration. The local plans and University Management Team plan together form an overall University Action Plan which was presented to Senate and approved in April. We are now pleased to share all the action plans, which are available from today on our website. You may also like to view our People Plan, available on the same page, which informs our approach to the key issues highlighted in the Staff Survey. We invite you to take a few minutes to read these, particularly the action plan relevant to your faculty or division. The action plans are ‘live’ documents and will be updated as our progress is achieved.
Each local area will be responsible for the delivery and success of their own plan and many of you have already seen actions taking shape to achieve this. In the coming months, we will conduct activities, including all staff open forums and UMT Plenary meetings, to gather any further thoughts or comments you may have.
I would like to thank you all for your feedback, comments and suggestions during this process. Special thanks in particular must go to the members of the Staff Experience Group (SEG) for their hard work over many months in digesting the results of the Survey and helping us to identify the improvements needed.
The collegiality that is such a crucial characteristic of our university needs to be fostered and sustained if we are to realise our institutional ambitions and be true to our organisational values. This is particularly so as the external environment becomes ever more volatile and challenging. Supporting our highly motivated workforce and fostering a supportive working environment has never been more important. I am encouraged by the collective will to address the challenges identified in the Staff Survey. There is still more to do, and I hope you will join me in continuing to approach these challenges together with the motivation and mutual respect which typify our community.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost
