Awards process

About the Awards

The Professional Services Excellence Awards recognise the outstanding contributions of staff within Professional Services (which includes administration, operational and technical staff). The efforts and achievements of nominees will be demonstrably over and above what is expected of them their day to day role.

Award categories

Outstanding Team

A group of staff that has made a significant contribution to either the staff or student experience, over and above the usual day-to-day activity.  They can demonstrate how the team members worked together synergistically to achieve a common goal.

Outstanding Innovation

In an increasingly dynamic sector, it will be important for the University to behave nimbly and in an innovative fashion in order to achieve its goals.  This award will celebrate an individual or team thinking 'outside the box', perhaps with the support of technology, to deliver a new approach or new techniques, processes or procedures that have helped students or staff.

Outstanding Partnership

This award will recognise high quality partnership working across the University to deliver outstanding service.  Partnership in this context is broadly defined and includes collaborative work between different parts of professional services, or between professional services and academic colleagues, and/or external partners.

Unsung Hero/Heroine Award

This award will recognise an individual whose role is generally ‘behind the scenes’ and who delivers high quality services using a proactive, results focused approach.  They will have made an outstanding contribution, consistently going above and beyond the scope of their role, serving as a model of excellence to colleagues.

Lifetime Achievement

This award will recognise an individual who has made a sustained and positive contribution to the University over a substantial time period.

Registrar's Award

For every set of Awards, the Registrar will identify a theme relevant to the two year period between the Awards.  This year, the theme is ‘diversity’. This award will recognise an individual, group or initiative that has made a significant contribution to improving the diversity and inclusion of staff and/or students.
