  • Skinfolds at four sites

Blood tests (fasting)

  • Routine haemotology, including total WCC
  • Haemostasis: fibrinogen, plasma viscosity, HTCT, anti-thrombin III
  • Lipids: cholesterol, total, VLDL, LDL, HDL, HDL2, HDL3 Triglycerides, total, VLDL, LDL, HDL
  • Hormones: testosterone, oestradiol, cortisol insulin
  • Blood glucose
  • Routine thyroid, liver and kidney function tests

1984 to 1988

Incident IHD - all IHD events between Phases I and II

  • Death: deaths coded to ICD 410-414 (9th revision)
  • Myocardial infarction: severe chest pain on the LSHTM questionaire, plus HAA listed events (details in hospital case-notes checked against WHO criteria).
  • ECG Myocardial infarction: no Q/QS wave (1-1, 1-2, 1-3) at base line, but major or moderate Q/QS waves (1-1-1 through 1-2-5 plus 1-2-7) on follow-up
