Teaching

Degree Programmes

The School offers a total of 6 degree programmes in Neuroscience, Pharmacology and Physiological Sciences as well as making substantial contributions to the first two years of the medical, dental and veterinary science programmes offered by the University. Students on professional courses are able to intercalate into the final year of our degree programmes.

Teaching on all programmes is informed by the research of our members of staff, many are international leaders in their field. Final year teaching has a special research focus based on interests of academic staff, and all students carry out a research project, typically within the research group of a member of staff but also in local schools or hospital laboratories.

The School has excellent facilities for the teaching of Neuroscience, Pharmacology and Physiology and is an innovator in education. We were awarded substantial funding from HEFCE to create the Applied & Integrated Medical Sciences (AIMS) Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, which has developed  unique resources and facilities that greatly enhance practical teaching, both for students and staff, including:

Throughout the course, programmes have a strong practical basis, taught in large, well equipped teaching laboratories. Our programmes integrate teaching of transferrable skills such as data analysis, critical thinking, report writing and presentation, equipping our graduates with key skills useful in their chosen career.
