Dr Tony Pickering has recently been activated a Wellcome Trust Senior Clinical Research Fellowship for 5 years to study "The role of noradrenergic neurones in endogenous analgesic circuits".

Dr Andy Salmon recently activated a MRC Clinician Scientific Fellowship for £1.6 million over 5 years to study "The endothelial surface layer in diabetic microangiopathy".

Dr Matt Jones along with Dr Lawrence Wilkinson (Cardiff Psychology) and Liz Coulthard (Frenchay Neurology) have been awarded a SARTRE pilot grant to study frontal cortical dysfunction over the next 12 months.

Prof Alastair Poole has been awarded a Wellcome Trust-funded Vet PhD (£200K) studentship to Robert Goggs (http://www.rvc.ac.uk/Staff/ragoggs.cfm). Starting this October, Robert will work on 'Analysis of the role of the filopodial regulatory protein Rif in platelet function and thrombosis'. The work will be conducted principally in the Poole lab and will be co-supervised by Dr Harry Mellor in Biochemistry. The project involves both in vitro and in vivo analyses of how Rif (RhoF, a member of the Rho family of small GTPases) is regulated and functions, in mouse model systems, human platelets and cell lines.
