21 October 2010

A study day focusing on Puffin Books took place on Friday 15 October, organised by the Penguin Collectors' Society with support from the AHRC Penguin Archive Project

On Friday 15 October, the University’s Wills Memorial Building hosted a Puffin Study Day for members of the general public, of whom around 80 attended.  The day, which was organised by the Penguin Collectors’ Society with support from the Penguin Archive Project, included talks organised by or given by the Penguin Collectors' Society, with several displays of rare and noted Puffin books from collectors as well as an exhibition of Puffin-related material from the Penguin Archive.

Contributors included Professor Phil Baines, author of the recent Puffin by Design; Valerie Grove, author of the new biography of Kaye Webb; Liz Attenborough, former Puffin Director and author of a forthcoming biography of Roald Dahl; the noted illustrator Jan Pienowski; and the present Puffin Managing Director, Francesca Dow.

The Penguin Archive Project will be planning another study day for the general public in 2011. To be updated on the details of this when they are confirmed, please sign up to the Penguin Archive Project's occasional e-newsletter by emailing penguin-project@bristol.ac.uk.
