Penguin designer, Raymond Hawkey, dies

Raymond Hawkey

Raymond Hawkey, noted graphic designer, passed away on the 22 August 2010, aged 80. Design director at the Daily Express in the '50s and '60s, and later The Observer, Hawkey also designed covers for many famous novels, including Ian Fleming's Thunderball and many Len Deighton novels, including The Ipcress File, several of which were published by Penguin (pictured).

A number of obituaries have recently been published, in The Guardian, The Telegraph and The Observer (PDF, 98Kb), which was written by Len Deighton.
