IAS themes, programmes and centres

The IAS pursues its own generic themes, undertaking associated programmes of research from time to time. In the past decade these have included Nexus, Crucible and Ruins. You will find details of these in the programme archive.

Currently our working themes are:

• ideas, intellectuals and the role of the university;
• inspiration/creativity in the knowledge process;
• animal-human interactions.

We welcome proposals from individual or groups of researchers for new overarching programmes of work of this sort, and funding is available for academics and ‘interns’ to undertake studies and projects to take these forward. IAS also hosts University Centres periodically, where the central issues and projects cross faculty boundaries and seem appropriately placed at the university-wide level. The main Centre currently hosted by IAS takes forward research on Water and Health.
