Nik Theodore is Professor of Urban Planning and Policy and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Research in the College of Urban Planning & Public Affairs at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC). Prior to joining UIC he was a 1997-98 Atlantic Fellow in Public Policy at the University of Manchester, and from 1988 to 1997 he worked as a researcher in the at the Chicago Urban League, an African-American civil rights organization. He has held visiting professorships at University of Johannesburg, Manchester University and York University in Canada. His research interests include theories of urban economic restructuring, labour market change, urban informality, and urban politics. His research in these areas has been supported by the Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Russell Sage Foundation, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, British Academy, and local non-governmental organisations.  Widely cited in the media, his research and commentary has been featured by the BBC, The Guardian, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and other media outlets.


Professor Theodore is an IAS Fast Track Benjamin Meaker Visiting Professor at Bristol.
