Thinking about your needs
If you have a vacancy or other resourcing need then you should contact your Resourcing team contacts to discuss your requirements.
You will need to put some thought into what your needs are and the best way to meet them. This should involve considering a number of questions with colleagues in your team and your line manager:
- If this is a new role, what are the main job purpose and objectives, responsibilities and tasks and what sort of experience skills and attributes will you be looking for?
- If this is an existing role, are there any changes that need to be made to the tasks and responsibilities to ensure the job will be fully effective? What input can the current post holder have in reviewing the role responsibilities and in the selection process?
- What space, resource or equipment requirements need to be considered before any new staff are recruited?
- Rather than recruiting a new person, are there opportunities for developing the skills and experience or redesigning the jobs of existing staff?
- If this cannot be justified as a full time, permanent contract post, what type of contract of employment or work pattern is likely to be most appropriate?
- If this is an academic or research role, what will be the appropriate academic career pathway and profile level and may it be appropriate to advertise over several profile levels to encourage a more diverse candidate pool?
- Are there links with related vacancies in other Schools, Faculties or Divisions which provide potential for a joined up advertising or selection process?
