This section of the Human Resources website covers the key areas associated with employing and paying University Hourly-Paid Teachers (HPTs). Such staff are employed at the University of Bristol to teach students on undergraduate, postgraduate and lifelong learning programmes. Schools/departments appoint an HPT to a role descriptor based on their duties, and they are paid at the appropriate hourly rate of pay, related to the University grading structure, for work undertaken.
From June 2010, following an extensive review of administrative processes, revised processes have been agreed and the University Personnel Information Management System (PIMS) will be used to record information about hourly-paid teaching staff and to generate contracts of employment for this staff group. Further changes to the process and systems available for administering payments for this group have also been explored, but only minimal changes have been agreed at this stage. We will continue to explore options with Financial Management project teams.
In addition, Human Resources are currently reviewing the broader employment framework for this group, in particular how we might introduce a mechanism for transferring those individuals undertaking a significant number of hours to a fractional contract. The potential nature and terms of such an arrangement are currently being discussed with managers and UCU.
