Cardboard

You can recycle all card, cardboard, and Tetrapak cartons. Please be sure to flatten your boxes so they don’t take up too much space in the external bins, then place them at your designated internal recycling point. If you’re not sure where your card recycling point is, or you need to set up a new one, contact your building Domestic Supervisor.

All card collected from the University is recycled into newsprint paper here in the UK.

Polystyrene

The hard, brittle, lightweight type of polystyrene often used to pack medical supplies or consumer electrical equipment is a ‘type 6’ plastic - look for the triangular symbol with a ‘6’ inside. This type of polystyrene is almost always white in colour, and disintegrates into tiny balls when broken. As it’s so bulky and takes up space in bins, please contact us and we’ll arrange to collect it.

Other types of polystyrene are soft and spongy, often used to pack delicate IT or electrical equipment. If you have a small amount of this type, follow the normal plastic recycling procedures. If you have large quantities, request a bin key from your porter and take it to the external plastic bin yourself.
