Bristol Big Give

An annual campaign to promote waste management across Bristol.

Bristol Big Give is an annual campaign organised by the Bristol Student Community Partnership (UoB, University of Bristol Students' Union, UWE, University of the West of England Students' Union (UWESU), and Bristol City Council). The campaign sees charity donations of reusable goods across the city during the end of summer term, targeting 40,000 students.

This year students have donated almost 80 tonnes of reusable goods, which could raise up to £134,975.25 for charity. Donations included unwanted clothes, books, duvets, electrical goods and much more at 22 British Heart Foundation donation banks across the city.

Each year the University holds a special event to sort through donations from halls over a three day period with the help of 16 student and staff volunteers. The work supports 16 local charities including Emmaus, CLIC Sargent, Bristol Refugee Rights, and the RSPCA.

The campaign ran from the end of April through to the first week of June and was the most successful year to date, receiving wide recognition across the city and being featured on the BBC newsBBC Radio Bristol, and in the Bristol Post.

It's a fantastic way for students to give back, as well as improving sustainability.
