“Mine was the last intake to receive any sort of grant - but I still needed to earn enough money to live. So I took a role, working 20-30 hours a week for Action Aid's telephone fundraising team. I had a number of elected student union positions and my student union campaigns were my first foray in marketing. This early multi-tasking really kick-started my career. I left the University with three solid years of work experience, and a decent degree.

“Since leaving I've built a marketing career - starting out with one of Bristol's top agencies, Mason Zimbler, but am now running my own marketing consulting business. I fully appreciate how my degree, student union and paid work came together to form the basis of the career that I love.

“I think as a city-based university, Bristol puts students at an advantage because they're more in touch with 'real life'. The big bad world can be a bit of a shock if you've gone straight from school to a campus. I'd also say the city itself is a massive plus point for any student here. There's a thriving business community hungry for young talent.

“18 years on, I can truly say that choosing the University of Bristol was one of the most important, and best, decisions of my life.”
