Biography

Richard graduated with a Physics Degree from Bristol University in 1986, and joined Rolls-Royce as an engineer.  He spent 14 years in Installation Aerodynamics for Military Engines, during which time he gained an MSC in Gas Turbine engineering form Cranfield University.  He then worked on Life Cycle cost, Reliability and aspects of designing products for Aftermarket / Service, prior to moving to current role.  He is the Corporate Skill owner for Systems Engineering in RR; this role includes explaining Systems Engineering to RR, implementing it in the organisation, defining the Systems Engineering methods and competencies needed across the whole organisation (including creating specific Systems Engineering roles), and defining and delivering a programme to implant Systems Engineering explicitly in Rolls-Royce

Instigated Charlotte Dunford’s EngD project “Use and Embedding of Systems Practice in the Defence Aerospace UK product Lifecycle”

Working on various committees (e.g. SE&OA NTC), also attended by Bristol University, defining proposals for research into the practice of Systems Engineering
