- Genetics, Power and Deafhood: Identifying Opposition to Eugenicist Policies
Adopting both 'insider researcher' and 'studying up' methodologies, the two year project will examine the hegemonic medical model discourse of 'deafness' through the lens of the new 'Deafhood' concept pioneered by CDS. It will locate and examine evidence concerning both Deaf and hearing people's fears that, if left unchecked, genetic technology could speed up liberal eugenicist social policies, as manifested in the discourses surrounding the passing of the recent Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill, approved by the UK Parliament in 2008.

- Signing First: An evaluation of the I-Sign BSL pilot
This project is a participatory formative and value for money assessment of the I Sign project which aims to increase BSL provision with the aim of narrowing the attainment gap between deaf and hearing children.

- British Sign Language Learner Corpus
The research is a preliminary study of British Sign Language learner corpus. The aim is to examine beginner learners' interlanguage of BSL and build a small scale database using the SignShared video streaming technology, which has been developed exclusively in the Centre for Deaf Studies, University of Bristol.

- REACH112: REsponding to All Citizens needing Help
The overall goal of the REACH112 project is to make 'telephones' accessible for people with disabilities". That includes person to person communication and 112 Emergency Services.

- EXPRESSION OF PERSPECTIVE, LOCATION AND MOTION IN BRITISH SIGN LANGUAGE (PaLM)
Linguistic research in the past 30 years has demonstrated that signed languages used in Deaf communities - such as British Sign Language (BSL) - are true languages in their own right, separate from spoken languages.~
