The University of Bristol Centre for Deaf Studies and the Centre for Personal and Professional Development, in association with Scream Bristol, are pleased to announce the second Sign Poetry Festival, to be held in Bristol on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st February.

This year, the Festival consists of two events:

Sign Poetry Workshops for Deaf People:

  • Saturday 20th February – 10am-4pm - University of Bristol Centre for Deaf Studies
    8 Woodland Road, Clifton, Bristol, BS8 1TN
  • Sunday 21st February – 10am-4pm - Bristol Centre for Deaf People
    16-18 King Square, Bristol BS2 8JL

Sign Poetry Performances by some of England and Europe's top Deaf poets:

  • Saturday 20th February - 7.30pm-11pm - Bristol Centre for Deaf People
    16-18 King Square, Bristol BS2 8JL

Workshops will explore different areas of sign language poetry together with the Japanese arts of haiku and renga. Participants will have opportunities to create, practise and perform their own sign poetry in a supportive, encouraging and inspiring environment.

Poetry workshops are open to Deaf people (age 18+) and will be in British Sign Language. A simple lunch will be provided.  Please email donna.west@bristol.ac.uk if you would like to book a place.

The Poetry Performance evening is open to anyone interested in sign language poetry (age 14+).  Tickets are £3 and can be ordered from screambristol@gmail.com.  Doors will open at 7pm, performances start at 7.30pm. Food will be provided, and the bar will be open.
