West Bristol

Riverside restaurants, floating bars and breathtaking engineering: welcome to west Bristol.

The city’s most famous landmark, Clifton Suspension Bridge, offers magnificent views of the Avon Gorge, and green spaces abound.

Visit Leigh Woods, or the stately home and grounds of Ashton Court - complete with grazing deer - which plays host to a range of summertime festivals.

Creativity is everywhere, from the international centre for contemporary art and design at Spike Island, to the Oscar-winning Aardman Animations studio.

Georgian architecture, pretty streets and upmarket boutiques make Clifton a neighbourhood not to be missed. And of course, you can find the University campus here too!

Renting in Bristol

Students and staff can find out about renting privately in Bristol from the Accommodation Office.

Hotwells is very pretty, it’s by the river and has great views. It’s good for a run or walk as it’s flat, and close to Ashton Court, Clifton and the city centre. It’s busy but feels quiet and detached from the centre. It feels less studenty than other areas. Rent is quite cheap as it’s mostly flats. Ours is spacious and has 7 bedrooms so we can share the costs. I recommend it!
