As part of his visit, Philipp gave a seminar about his research on 'UWBeams Ultra WideBand Beamforming and Beamsteering to enhance the datarate for mobile devices' (PDF, 2.2MB) to members of the CCR.
Philipp graduated from the Technical College Ulm (Germany) in 1999. Between 2000-2006 he studied Electrical Engineering specialising in Communication Technology at the University of Ulm. His diploma thesis "Analysis of UWB Antennas" was undertaken at the Institute of Microwave Techniques. He received the Dipl.-Ing in 2006. During his studies he gained industrial experience with Siemens Mobile Phones and BenQ-Siemens 2003-2006 in the EMC and Antenna Lab. He worked as an intern for ULM Photonics in 2005 & Bosch Japan (Yokohama) in 2007. After graduation he worked for the start-up company Ubidyne as a System Test Engineer.
Since April 2009 he has been pursuing a doctoral degree at the Institute of Communications and RF Engineering at the Vienna University of Technology. The focus of research is ultra-wideband antenna arrays and the use of beam forming, shaping and steering in near-field applications. During the summer of 2009 he jump-started his participation in COST 2100 with contribution TD(09)947 entitled "A Four Element UWB Group Antenna for Beamforming" which was presented during the 9th Management Committee Meeting in Vienna.
