School for Policy Studies

The School for Policy Studies aims to link policy and practice, theory and action, and brings together the academic excellence and policy expertise of around 62 academic staff in four specialist research centres.  The School was involved in the establishment of the Water and Health Research Centre concentrating on water governance issues.

Patricia Lucas

The University of Bristol’s Policy studies team is led by Dr Patricia Lucas. Her previous research has focused on:

  • health inequalities
  • early childhood development
  • development of an evidence base for policy 

Professor Dave Gordon

Dave Gordon

Dave Gordon is the Director of the Townsend Centre for International Poverty Research. He is contributing his considerable expertise in the area of poverty and health in global contexts.  Professor Gordon has been involved in water policy research for many years and is faculty champion for the Water and Health Research Centre.

Dr Christie Cabral

Christie Cabral

Christie Cabral completed a PhD in social anthropology in 2002 at the University of Surrey.  She has extensive experience of conducting research projects in developing country contexts and on a range of development interventions including:

  • Sustainable natural resource use practices
  • Monitoring and evaluation of social support programmes
  • A survey of violence affecting children in Guyana
  • Distance learning programmes for teacher training
  • Social science and participatory research methods training for development professionals

Christie has also conducted research in the UK into parenting in low income families and links to child maltreatment.
