Biography
I am an Associate Professor in Design Thinking and Innovation at the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, specialising in the intersection of creativity, technology and learning design. My career began in the global creative industries, working with organisations such as 20th Century Fox, Disney, Universal Pictures and Turner Entertainment, before moving into higher education, where this professional grounding continues to shape my teaching, research and curriculum development.
At Bristol, I have led major pedagogic and programme transformation across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. As Centre Education Director (2020–2023), I oversaw curriculum restructuring, strengthened hybrid delivery during COVID-19 and contributed to the development of four new postgraduate programmes that tripled Centre PGT numbers in one year. Following this role, I introduced new assessment models, including Learning Conversations and Evidence Decks, which now underpin multiple MA Digital Innovation units and support authentic, equitable learning for diverse cohorts.
My academic work focuses on innovation education, assessment design, creative practice and emerging approaches to the future of learning. I am developing research on AI-integrated pedagogy, authentic assessment, wellbeing and the design of interdisciplinary creative programmes. I also work with industry partners to ensure teaching and curriculum design remain grounded in contemporary practice.
Alongside my academic leadership, I am an active painter and filmmaker, using creative practice to explore narrative, visual communication and immersive storytelling. This directly informs my teaching philosophy, which prioritises experimentation, collaboration and real-world relevance.
Research interests
My research focus is deeply rooted in pioneering innovation within design education, emphasising the pivotal role of real-world applications. I'm committed to crafting enriching academic experiences that blend diverse disciplines, ensuring students are equipped for the complexities of contemporary design practices. An integral part of my contribution lies in mentorship, as I'm invested in cultivating the next generation of designers, particularly those hailing from diverse backgrounds. Through initiatives exploring systems and design thinking, I've endeavored to merge academia with industry realities, thereby enriching students' hands-on experiences. Internationally collaborative projects and my association with global educational entities further refine my research endeavours. Given my interests and expertise, I am keen to support PhD candidates exploring the interplay between practical design applications and pedagogical strategies, multidisciplinary design approaches, or the nexus of innovative real-world applications, Practice as Research (PaR) and design.

Teaching
In recent years, I have introduced sector-leading assessment models, including Learning Conversations and Evidence Decks, designed to enhance authenticity, reduce reliance on AI-authored text, and support students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. These methods now underpin teaching across multiple MA Digital Innovation pathways and have significantly improved student engagement, equity, and attainment.
As Centre Education Director, I led substantial reform across all CfIE programmes, developing new curricula, strengthening digital delivery, and supporting staff in adopting hybrid teaching practices. I support personal tutoring, contribute to Faculty-wide pedagogic strategy, and collaborate closely with industry partners to bring live briefs and real-world challenges into the curriculum.
I remain committed to creating learning environments where students feel supported to experiment, collaborate, and discover their own creative direction. My approach prioritises openness, adaptability, and professional readiness, aligning academic learning with the demands and opportunities of the contemporary creative economy.
