Research interests
My research interests broadly encompass chant transmission and the development of music notation in post-Conquest England. Consequently, in my PhD thesis I examine the musical, liturgical, and scribal practices at St Albans Abbey in the twelfth century, with a focus on the manuscript Oxford, Bodleian Library, Laud Misc. 4. Through a case study of Laud Misc. 4, I investigate the development of 'Anglo-Norman' notation, the production of musical-liturgical books, and the transmission of processional liturgy in the twelfth century, at a time when St Albans was one of the most influential monastic institutions in England. My research is funded by the AHRC South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership and is co-supervised by the University of Exeter.
