Stuart (Stu) Hurst is a PhD candidate in Law at the University of Bristol. His project centres around mental health in the workplace, and particularly the legal rights, responsibilities, and remedies associated with psychosocial risk at work. He is supervised by Professor Judy Laing and Dr Philippa Collins.
Stu has completed two dissertations at Master's level previously:
- LL.M. - Supervised by Professor Tonia Novitz (University of Bristol) looking at the suitability of current labour law frameworks for a just transition and the ability of unions to act as both a 'sword' and a 'shield' to that end.
- MSc - Supervised by Professor Miguel Martínez-Lucio (University of Manchester) looking at the ephemerality of the optimism in industrial relations literature that was borne from the COVID pandemic and how that has been overshadowed by subsequent sociopolitical crises.
His research interests are quite broad and include individual employment law, collective labour law, industrial relations, equality law, health and safety law, and contract law.
