Mitch Turnbull is an award-winning documentary producer, director and writer with over twenty years’ experience working across broadcast, digital and immersive media. She has created factual content for leading broadcasters, studios, brands and organisations including BBC Studios, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, WWF, The Royal Foundation, the United Nations, Meta, Lenovo and Magic Leap. Her work centres on the natural world, conservation and the arts, with a strong track record in natural history storytelling.

Since 2015, Mitch has been at the forefront of immersive and interactive factual storytelling, exploring how XR technologies can deepen audience engagement and support environmental understanding and behaviour change. She has conceived and led multiple award-winning VR, AR and mixed-reality projects, combining rigorous documentary practice with emerging technologies, spatial audio and audience research.

In 2024, Mitch joined the University of Bristol as a Senior Research Associate in Immersive Natural History Experiences, where her research focuses on the use of immersive technologies to enhance public engagement with nature, nature connectedness, ecological citizenship and environmental sustainability. Alongside her academic work, she continues to develop and direct immersive and traditional content, bridging industry practice, research and education.
