Research interests
Martin is a PhD researcher at the University of Bristol's School of Education. His research can be situated within a wider critical approach to social policy with a specific focus on the nexus of migration, sustainability, development and education.
His current research is an analysis of the enactment of global refugee policy within Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Specifically, his research seeks to understand the changes in educational opportunities driven by policy and to what extent these relate to the needs of refugees. Martin was previously a special needs teacher and has worked and lived in Ethiopia and in the UK. He holds Masters degrees in Education, Policy and International Development and in Research Methodologies. His previous research has looked at the education of refugees in Greece and in Bristol. Epistemological justice, power and democracy are common themes throughout Martin's work.
