Biography
Dr Mark Rampersad is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Primary Care Dentistry at Bristol Dental School, with over 30 years of experience in general dental practice. Alongside his academic role, his extensive career in primary care has provided a deep understanding of the clinical, professional, and interpersonal aspects of modern dentistry.
His teaching is firmly grounded in real-world experience, enabling students to connect theoretical knowledge with the practical realities of patient care. Drawing on decades of clinical practice, he uses authentic cases and scenarios to help learners develop sound clinical judgement, effective communication skills, and a patient-centred approach to treatment planning and decision-making.
Dr Rampersad is committed to preparing future dental professionals for the challenges and subtleties of contemporary practice. Through clinical supervision, teaching, and mentorship, he encourages students to become reflective practitioners who are confident, compassionate, and committed to lifelong learning.
His academic interests include primary care dentistry, dental education, curriculum development, assessment, and evidence-based practice. He is Year 2 Lead for the Dental Therapy programme and Teamworking Lead for Bristol Dental School, contributing to curriculum delivery, student support and the development of collaborative practice across the dental team. He teaches across a range of settings, including large-group lectures, small-group tutorials, clinical skills teaching and clinical supervision of undergraduate students.

His responsibilities include the design, delivery and marking of formative and summative assessments, moderation processes, and examining students across all stages of undergraduate training, including final clinical and professional examinations.
