Reasearch interests include Greek myth, configuratuions of gender in the ancient Greek world, constructions of the body, and the reception of Greek antiquity in twentieth-century literature.

PhD dissertation title (in progress): 'To enter the house of Hades and exit the gender binary: dying women, novel genders in ancient Greek myth"

The aim of this PhD project is to examine the numerous deaths of female figures which abound in Greek myth and to demonstrate that in certain cases the circumstances of these deaths, the manner in which they occur, and the surrounding events cast doubt on the identification of these figures as women. A number of factors combine to undermine the stabiulity of the organising catoegories of male and female and open up the space for the emergence of new, as of yet unarticulated genders.
