Biography
Maria Korea is the Commercial Research Manager supporting the negotiation of industry-funded research arrangements at the pre-contract stage for the University of Bristol.
Previously, she managed the Hong Kong History Centre, the world’s first centre dedicated to Hong Kong history. Maria joined the University of Bristol in 2015 as Smart Internet Lab Manager, a £100M ICT research centre, and Programme Manager for the £10M 5GUK Test Network, which delivered the world’s first end-to-end 5G trials.
MBA- and PRINCE2-qualified, Maria is a Knowledge Exchange expert with 20 years’ experience in innovation management, leadership, research governance, policy, and strategic partnerships across industry, academia, government, and the third sector.
She previously worked at the University of Bath on HEIF, the €9M EC FP7 ECO-SEE project, the £2M EPSRC ‘Knowledge Transfer EQUAL’ programme, and the €5M ERDF INTERREG IVA project on energy-efficient transport materials. Before that, she worked at the University of Nottingham managing the Centre for the Environment.
Maria holds a BA (Hons) in Politics and International Relations with Spanish, an MSc in International Development and Security, and an MBA, reflecting her interest in research commercialisation.
