Biography
My background working in a pharmaceutical company, at UKRI and at UoB underpin my understanding of the Research and Innovation Ecosystem and my drive to see research 'getting out there and used' for maximum impact.
I am Head of Impact Development, taking a key role in developing and delivering a high quality strategic agenda for the growth of translational research and research impact alongside other Heads of Team in RED and the Director of Research Impact. I also work one day a week as impact development manager for life sciences, working with academics to plan and secure funding for impact projects.
I have an MSci, chemistry with industrial experience from the University of Bristol and started my career at the specialist inhalation pharmaceutical company, Vectura as a pharmaceutical scientist. I held a variety of roles during 6 years at the company, progressing to managing large pharmaceutical development programmes.
Pursuing an interest in innovation strategy and engagement between academic and industry researchers, I moved to STFC. Here, I worked across academic and industry stakeholders, in partnership with BEIS, to ensure that stakeholder interests informed STFC's strategies and delivery plan. I undertook a secondment at RCUK to develop the executive-level relationship between the Research Councils and Innovate UK, underpinning the transition to UKRI. I also worked with BEIS on the development of the UKRI Industrial Strategy priorities.
I joined the Impact Development team in 2017 as I wanted to have greater engagement with the academic community and to facilitate the delivery of impact at scale. Initially working with the faculty of engineering, I later moved to working across the faculty of Life Sciences.
