Research interests
I undertook a PhD in the Structure and Motion Laboratory, supervised by Professor Alan Wilson, where I studied the mechanics of high speed terrestrial locomotion in cursorial animals. The focus of the PhD was on the development of novel methods of assessing locomotion and the utilisation of these methods in increasing our understanding of how animals locomote efficiently on different surfaces and terrains.
Following on from my PhD my scientific interests include innovative quantitative measurement techniques for studying animal movement and the application of these methods within a clinical environment. I am also interested in bone and cartilage biology in normal and pathological states and fracture healing biology. Other areas of collaborative research include nociceptive reflexes and assessment of pain and quality of life in dogs with chronic pain conditions such as osteoarthritis.
I also enjoy comparative aspects of locomotor biomechanics and have worked with a range of animals including dogs, horses, cows and camels.
