Research interests
I am marine biologist in my first year as a PhD candidate, focussing on coral reproduction and coral reef bioacoustics. Prior to my PhD, I worked on a diverse range of research projects including seagrass and blue carbon, megafauna, and marine protected areas. These projects involved collaboration with both locally based organisations and international researchers to contribute to the conservation of tropical marine ecosystems within the Maldives and Seychelles. I have led the successful designation of three IUCN recognised Important Shark and Ray Areas, co-ordinated the implementation of the first larval restoration project in the Maldives, led a research and outreach expedition after a successful grant application to Mission Blue, and have been featured in two episodes on BBCs Our Changing Planet. Prior to this, I graduated top of my course with a MSc in Ecology, Evolution & Conservation from Imperial College London in October 2021, with a 1st class honours undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Leeds obtained in 2020.
My research focussed on:
- Sensory behaviour of coral larvae
- Use of bioacoustics for long-term monitoring of ecosystem health, particularly in relation to climate change
- Applications of bioacoustics in coral reef recovery
