Research interests
My research centers on maternal and newborn health, with specialized expertised in neural tube defects (NTDs) prevention and interventions. I'm committed to advancing our understanding of these critical developmental conditions that affect approximately 1 in 1000 pregnancies worlwide.
NTDs represent some of the most preventable serious birth defects with profound longterm consequences for individuals, families and health care system. My work contributes to understanding not only prevention strategies but also the lifelong outcomes and quality of life trajectories for those affected by these conditions. I take an interdisciplinary approach that bridges multiple fields including longitudinal developmental outcomes research, life-course epidemiology and follow-up studies, as well as functional ouctomes assessment and quality of life measurements.
My research aims to understand both the prevention of NTDs and their long term developmental, functional and psychosocial outcomes. I investigate how early interventions influence lifelong trajectories, examining outcomes across the lifespan including cognitive development, physical functioning, educational attainment and quality of life. This longtudinal perspective helps inform evidence-based care strategies that optimize outcomes from birth through adulthood.
Through rigorous research and colloborative partnerships, I work towards a future where not only are NTDs significantly reduced, but where individuals affected by these conditions achieve optimal long-term outcomes and quality of life across lifespan. My goal is to inform evidence based interventions that support thriving infancy through adulthood, benefiting individuals, families and communities worldwide.
