My PhD research explores how location-based platform work is reshaping the informal work landscape in India, with a focus on ride-hailing and food delivery services in Kolkata. I examine how state policies, practices, and imaginaries intersect with the everyday realities of platform workers, highlighting the role of the state in shaping the contours of platform labour. Drawing on interdisciplinary literatures in economic sociology, political economy, and state theory, my work situates platform work within broader debates on informality, state politics, and socio-economic transformation in contemporary India.
