Research interests
Within the broader academic field of security and development studies, Chuka’s research is situated in the intersection of intrastate violent conflict, poverty, and development, but with more accentuated focus on Sub-Saharan Africa.
His research engages not only with the classical modernist and ethnosymbolic theories of intrastate violent conflict, but also with key literatures in Political Philosophy (Political Theory) that are relevant in understanding the correlation between injustice and intrastate violent conflict.
His recently concluded research project sought to establish the means through which petroleum-related ethno-national tensions in the Niger Delta metamorphose into full scale violent confrontations, as well as how these may be resolved.
Chuka has also taught the following courses: Political Concepts (and theories), Issues in Global Politics, Ethics, and Politics of the Sub-Saharan Africa. These units cover a wide range of themes such as Power, Democracy, Justice, Multiculturalism, Neopatrimonialism, Neoliberalism, Colonialism and Decolonisation, Issues in Global Politics, and “Feminism”, amongst others.
His research interests include the following: Development Politics, Politics of Sub-Saharan Africa, Intrastate Violent Conflict, Neoliberalism, Multiculturalism, Decolonialisation, Conflict Mediation, Ethnicity, Civic Nationalism; and other issues relating to Social Justice and Inequality.
He may be consulted during his office hours. Please, email him in advance to schedule an appointment.
