Biography
China conducts applied social science research and has a particular interest and background in health psychology, focusing on understanding the psychosocial aspects of sexual, reproductive and fertility health. The overarching aim of her research is to employ mixed methods to develop, implement and evaluate public health interventions to make significant contributions to understanding and impacting healthcare policy and practice. China's research and associated outputs have subsequently been applied in schools, community and health care settings.
China completed her PhD entitled ‘childbearing decision making where are all the men’ in 2012 and went on to work as part of the Cardiff Fertility Studies research team where she remains an honorary research associate. In 2021 China joined the University of Bristol as a Senior Research Associate in the School for Public Health Research, she then moved to her current position in 2023.
China's work has been widely published in notable, international high impacting peer reviewed journals. She has additionally contributed to the public understanding of science, via commentary, articles, websites and has been invited national and international talks. China has received funding as Principal Investigator (PI) from the ESRC, and as a co-applicant from Gilead Science Inc. Merck Serono, and the NIHR.
Research interests
China has a particular interest in understanding the psychosocial aspects of sexual, reproductive and fertility health and improving health care provision via the development and implementation of public health interventions. China has a strong interest in collaborative and participatory research, working with service users and staff to co-produce research and services to improve public health and reduce health inequities.
