Biography
Charles teaches international commercial arbitration, intellectual property law, tort law, and related aspects of the law of damages in the University of Bristol Law School. He also supervises research projects.
Charles is called to the Bar of England and Wales and a member of the Inner Temple. He worked in the international law and arbitration practice at WilmerHale LLP, gained practicing insights in leading barristers' chambers, and marshalled the Presidents of the Commercial Court and Chancery Division of the High Court of England and Wales.
At NYU Law, Charles' research concerned ‘Respectful Coercion’ and the nature of law, supervised by Jeremy Waldron. Charles obtained numerous academic awards and prizes, including for ranking top of his year in international law. He serves as a judge in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
Charles is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. He advises the public health organisation SXT Health CIC, and has served in the Fast-Track Cities London Leadership Group of UNAIDS. He is committed to pro bono work, with experience representing victims of revenge porn.
As a conservatoire-trained musician, Charles performs with a variety of orchestras and ensembles.
