Biography
I obtained an HND in Applied Physical Science at Bristol Polytechnic (now UWE) before working in the Inorganic teaching lab and NMR labs (nuclear magnetic resonance) in the School of Chemistry, University of Bristol.
I obtained a position at Rio Tinto Zinc (RTZ) an industrial chemical company, in the research labs, looking into reformulating aerosols and refrigeration systems to eliminate CFC`s (chlorofluorocarbons)using ozone friendly propellants/refrigerants.
Whilst at RTZ I completed an HNC in chemistry
For the past 20 years I have worked at the University of Bristol, Earth Sciences as a technician in the Isotope Geochemistry Labs, supporting lab users and carrying out project work. Some of the research work over this period I have undertaken has been for Archaeology, sampling, processing and analysing pigment in cave art collected from caves in Northern Spain for uranium-series dating.
Other research work has involved sampling enamel of ancient human teeth to carry out strontium and oxygen analysis to discover ancient diets and geographical movements.
Current work involves uranium series analysis of deep sea corals to investigate changes in ocean chemistry and climate change from past to the present.
