Caitlin Sturrock is a PhD candidate at the University of Bristol, generously funded by the University of Bristol Research Scholarship with the Graduate Teaching Assistantship. Her thesis, entitled 'Disabling the Enlightenment', explores metaphors of female sensory disability in libertine novels from the twilight of the Ancien Régime to the end of the Revolution.
Prior to beginning her doctoral study, she completed a BA in Modern Languages and Cultures (French and Italian) at Durham University and a MSt in Modern Languages (French) at the University of Oxford.
Caitlin is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She teaches on the first-year units ‘French Cultures in Context’ and ‘Representations of Francophone Cultures’ and has previously taught on the second-year unit ‘French Drama’. She further has a particular interest in outreach and widening access, having contributed to the Access to Bristol scheme with the School of Modern Languages.
Outside of her thesis, Caitlin has been involved in a number of journals that promote postgraduate research; most recently, she was a general editor for volumes 19 (2024) and 20 (2025) of the MHRA’s Working Papers in the Humanities.
