Research interests
I am an AHRC SWWDTP PhD Researcher in History (University of Bristol, University of Exeter, and the Science Museum Group) exploring material cultures of disability. My doctoral research combines material culture, disability, and spatial histories with phenomenological approaches to understand people’s experiences of the Thalidomide Scandal.
My project is person-centred and object-focused, prioritising the lived experiences of individuals with thalidomide differences. In collaboration with the Science Museum Group, my research moves beyond the visual to explore how historical objects were felt, smelled, and heard. In doing so, I examine how disability in the context of thalidomide has been shaped by objects as sensory and affective ‘things’.
