I am deeply interested in exploring history, history education, and environmental history. Inspired by the Annales School of Socio-Economic History and, more recently, studies in environmental history, I am eager to contribute meaningful insights to the rich and largely unexplored environmental history of Indonesia.

I am also a lecturer and historian based at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, where my research often explores economic history and social dynamics, particularly within Indonesia. For instance, one of my studies examines the historical development of coconut plantations in Indragiri Hilir, Riau, where I explore the socioeconomic impacts and ongoing challenges faced by the coconut industry. This work aims to provide local communities and stakeholders with insights into the historical context of coconut-based economies—an especially timely focus given the current industry challenges in the region. In this study, I employ a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, including historical documentation, statistical analysis, and interviews with individuals active in the coconut sector. This mixed-methods approach allows for a comprehensive understanding of how various historical, economic, and social factors have shaped the region’s economic landscape.

Recently, I have also begun exploring deforestation and land-use policy through a historical lens as my PhD project at the University of Bristol, aiming to uncover the underlying causes of frequent natural disasters and biodiversity loss in Indonesia. This topic will be the focus of my dissertation research, as I seek to understand how historical land-use practices and policy decisions have contributed to current environmental challenges.
