Research interests
I am deeply interested in exploring history, history education, and environmental history. Inspired by the Annales School of Socio-Economic History and, more recently, studies in environmental history, I am eager to contribute meaningful insights to environmental history of Indonesia.
I am also a lecturer and historian based at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, where my research often explores economic history and social dynamics, particularly within Indonesia. For instance, one of my studies examines the historical development of coconut plantations in the major production cluster of copra (dried kernel coconut) in Indonesia. I explored the socioeconomic impacts and ongoing challenges faced by the coconut industry.
I have also begun exploring deforestation and land-use policy through a historical lens in my PhD project at the University of Bristol, aiming to uncover the underlying causes of environmental change and biodiversity loss in Indonesia, as well as to examine how the perceptions and cultural attachments of communities living in forest frontiers have evolved over time.
