Biography
Before joining the university sector, my career included ten years working in environmental policy working across government and private sector consultancy, and five years as a secondary science teacher. The thread running through these diverse experiences is a love of science and the desire to communicate the most relevant and interesting messages to a variety of audiences (disengaged 16 year olds and overloaded civil servants having more in common than you might think!).
I have extensive experience of policy development and policy/political decision making, relationship-building and influencing at a strategic level, gained from eight years working at the Environment Agency on sustainable development, health policy, partnerships, and finally, as a principal social scientist with a focus on sustainable behaviours. I spent a further year at a research consultancy, designing and delivering a number of original research projects related to sustainable development for government and third sector clients.
After retraining and spending five years teaching secondary science in and around Bristol, I joined the University sector as part of PolicyBristol - a specialist knowledge exchange team working to enhance the contribution of research to policymaking.
