Anamaria’s research is focused on forced migration, ethnicity, integration and citizenship and hostile environment, sex work, women’s rights, intersectionality, and Marxist feminism. With her project provisionally titled ‘England’s hostile environment: Sex work as an attempt to mitigate the impacts of destitution for women who are denied asylum’, she seeks to identify the gaps on literature about the topic and answer the questions: How is the existing UK legal framework failing to provide the enforcement of basic rights to women asylum seekers and hence contributing to their resort to sex work? And what can be done to address that? Therefore, to elaborate measures that can be employed to assist women asylum seekers that are (i) left destitute, and (ii) have been forced by circumstances into prostitution.
Anamaria is currently a teaching associate in Law, and she has also been a visiting lecturer and unit coordinator of international human rights law at the University of the Gambia, and editor-in-chief of the Gambia Law Review.
