Research interests
I have a background in the literary medical humanities, particularly where they intersect with environmental criticism and theory. My doctoral research is concerned with ecologies of crisis in narratives of health and illness, supervised by Dr Maria Vaccarella (Bristol) and Dr Arthur Rose (Exeter). My research is funded by the South, West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership (AHRC).
I am the author of HOTHOUSE (Salò Press, 2021), and co-edited This is not a biography* (Yellow Paper Press, 2023) with Dr Laura Haynes and Kate Timney. I am the Co-Editor in Chief of JAWS Journal of Art and Writing, alongside Dr Lizzie Lloyd. I was previously the Poetry and Nonfiction Editor at SPAM Press, and worked with the SPAM team for a number of years on post-internet poetics and publishing.
My research on trauma ecologies was published by the Journal of Literature and Trauma Studies, and I have presented work at conferences across the UK and Europe. Some of these have been held at Lund University in Sweden, Tilburg University in the Netherlands, the University of Oxford, the Glasgow School of Art, the Thackray Museum of Modern Medicine in Leeds, the University of York, UK, Paul Valéry University Montpellier 3 in France, the Palace of the Academies in Brussels, and the Institute of Modern Languages Research in London. I hold an MA in English Literature (Honours of the First Class) from the University of Glasgow, a Wellcome-funded MA in Medical History and Humanities (Distinction) from the University of York, and an MLitt in Art Writing (Distinction) from the Glasgow School of Art.
Some of my awards in recent years include an SWWDTP (AHRC) PhD Studentship (2023), a GSA Staff Student Partnership Fund (2023), the Edwin Morgan Centenary Trust Second Life Award (2022), the University of York's MA Dissertation Prize (2021), the Alexander Waddel Prize (2020), a Wellcome Trust Scholarship (2020), a York Futures Scholarship (2021), a small project grant from the Centre for Modern Studies, University of York (2021), and two grants from the Nurturing Talent – Time to Shine Fund (2018/21).
