Biography
I am currently completing my PhD at the Bristol Dental School as an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellow while holding an honorary contract with University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust as a clinical fellow in Restorative Dentistry.
My research utilises a mixed-methodological approach to study dental caries (tooth decay) in people with a cleft lip and/or palate (CLP). This is split into;
- investigating the epidemiology of caries in children with CLP using the Cleft Collective resource
- evidence synthesis and meta-analysis of current interventions used to prevent and manage caries in all children
- qualitative interviewing with children with CLP, their parents/carers and key stakeholders including general dentists and core members of the cleft multidisciplinary team, to identify facilitators and barriers to effective care
- co-production workshops to develop and refine a complex intervention to improve the prevention and management of this disease in people with CLP.
My wider interests are focused around applied research into dentistry and oral health including the organisation of health services and dental education.
I am supervised by Dr Barry Main and Dr Yvonne Wren at Bristol Dental School, Dr Leila Rooshenas and Prof Sarah Lewis at Bristol Medical School, and Prof Nicola Innes externally at Cardiff University. I work closely with the Cleft Collective research group at the University of Bristol.
